Situated in the historic heart of Sherborne, the town museum features over 15,000 items of local history
Located in the heart of the Sherborne, on Church Lane, running from the Conduit in the market place to the Abbey, is Sherborne Museum. It opened in 1968 and evolved from the town's Historical Society with an aim to represent the heritage of Sherborne including geological, industrial, historical, cultural and social.
The museum is housed in what was formerly the Almonry and belonged to the Abbey; it is now a Grade II listed building and a registered charity and is supported by numerous organisations is run by a group of volunteers.
Sherborne Museum has a wide ranging collection. Highlights include impressive fossils, 200 botanical watercolours by Edwardian artist Diana Ruth Wilson, large photographic archive, various agricultural tools and a unique medieval wall painting. There are also different temporary exhibitions throughout the year that represent local festivals and key dates.
