Corfe Castle Ruins

Corfe Castle Ruins

The dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle in Purbeck.

The section nearest was the 'gloriette' which was built in the 13th century as quarters for the king. Behind is the great tower.

All are set high on the inner bailey, surveying the countryside below for miles.

The castle was destroyed in 1646 by Parliamentary forces during the Civil War.
