Tucked away, next to much better-known Lulworth Cove, the geological gem that is Stair Hole is often overlooked. This little natural cove is testimony to the power of erosion; carved into the limestone cliffs, it contains any number of striking rock formations including arches, caves, and folded layers of rock known as "Lulworth Crumple." The crumple consists of alternating layers of limestone and shale that have been contorted into a striking zig-zag pattern over the milenia.
Stair Hole is a popular spot for geology enthusiasts and visitors alike. It is set on a stretch of the Jurassic Coast which is jammed full of stunning rock formations. From the near circular bay of Lulworth Cove next door to the instantly recognisable rock arch of Durdle Door a short walk along the coast.
