Located at the top of South Street behind the town hall is Bucky Doo (or Buckydoo) Square.
There is no certain answer as to where the name came from. One theory is it was from a pub named the 'Buck and Doe' that was located here in the 17th century.
A slightly more high-brow suggestion is it is derived from 'Bocardo' which was a type of prison that may have existed here in the 13th century.
A more down to earth suggestion is it is derived from Boccard or Boggard, a mediaeval word for toilet!
