A wide view of Lulworth Cove showing its unique, almost circular shape.
Created by milenia of erosion, the cove was shaped from a concave section of soft clays and hard limestone which eroded at different rates. As the softer rocks were worn away by the sea, the harder, more resistant limestone remained, leaving the iconic circular shape of the cove.
This geological process, combined with the action of the waves breaking through weaknesses in the resistant rock, allowed the sea to carve out the picturesque cove we see today.
